This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, which categories of cookies our website may set, why we use them, and how you can review or change your preferences. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which describes in more detail how we handle the personal information that some cookies help us collect. Bakxyshake is an online retailer of ice cream shop supplies and serving accessories, and the cookies we rely on are the ordinary ones a working e-commerce store needs to keep a cart intact, a checkout secure, and a catalog loading quickly.
Clause 01What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your computer, phone, or tablet when you visit. The file holds a short string of information — often nothing more than a random identifier — that lets the site recognise your browser on a later page load or a return visit. Cookies cannot run programs, read unrelated files on your device, or carry viruses. They simply let a website remember small pieces of state that the web, on its own, would otherwise forget between one click and the next.
When we refer to "cookies" in this policy we use the term broadly to include closely related technologies that serve the same purpose. These include local storage and session storage (small stores of data kept inside your browser), pixels or web beacons (tiny image requests that confirm a page or message was loaded), and software development kits or tags embedded in pages. Wherever this policy says "cookies," please read it as covering these similar technologies as well, since the choices and protections described here apply to all of them.
First-party and third-party cookies
A first-party cookie is set by Bakxyshake directly and is readable only by our own site. A third-party cookie is set by another organisation whose service is embedded in one of our pages — for example an analytics provider or a payment processor. We use both, but we keep third-party cookies to the small number needed to run the store safely and to understand, in aggregate, how the store is used.
Session and persistent cookies
A session cookie lasts only until you close your browser and is then discarded; it is what keeps a single visit coherent as you move from the catalog to the cart. A persistent cookie remains for a defined period — from a few days to a couple of years — so that the site can remember a preference or recognise a returning visitor. The illustrative table further down shows the general lifespan of each category we use.
Clause 02The categories of cookies we use
We group the cookies on our website into four broad categories. The grouping follows the common industry approach and is meant to make the purpose of each cookie easy to understand at a glance. Strictly necessary cookies are always active because the store cannot function without them; the other three categories support measurement, convenience, and, where used, marketing, and you can decline them without losing the ability to browse or buy.
| Category | Purpose | Example use on our store | Typical lifespan | Consent |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Keep the site secure and functioning; enable core actions such as adding to cart and checking out. | Remembering the items in your cart, protecting the checkout against fraud, balancing site traffic. | Session to 12 months | Always on |
| Performance & analytics | Measure how visitors use the store so we can fix problems and improve pages. | Counting page views, timing how quickly the catalog loads, seeing which categories are opened. | Session to 24 months | Optional |
| Functional | Remember choices you make to give you a more convenient visit. | Recalling your region for shipping estimates, a recently viewed scoop, or a dismissed notice. | Session to 12 months | Optional |
| Advertising & targeting | Where used, help measure marketing and limit repeated ads. | Understanding whether a visit followed one of our ads; capping how often a promotion is shown. | Up to 13 months | Optional |
Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are essential for the website to work and cannot be switched off in our systems without breaking core functionality. They are usually set only in response to actions you take, such as placing an item in your cart, signing in to an account, or moving into the secure checkout. They also carry out background tasks that keep the store safe and stable — verifying that a form submission genuinely came from your browser, spreading traffic evenly across our servers, and preserving your session so a page reload does not empty your basket. Because they are required to deliver the service you have asked for, we treat them as strictly necessary and do not ask for consent to use them. You can still block them in your browser, but if you do, parts of the store such as the cart and checkout may stop working.
Performance and analytics cookies
Performance and analytics cookies help us understand how the store is used so that we can improve it. They tell us, in aggregate, which pages are visited most often, how long a catalog page takes to become usable, where visitors encounter errors, and which routes through the site lead smoothly to a completed order. The information they gather is combined across many visitors and is not used to identify you personally; it is used to make decisions such as reorganising a category, fixing a slow image, or simplifying a step that many people abandon. If you decline this category, we simply lose that aggregate insight — your ability to browse and purchase is unaffected.
Functional cookies
Functional cookies remember choices you make so the store feels less repetitive on your next visit. They might store the region you selected so we can show relevant shipping estimates, keep a note of a scoop or dispenser you looked at recently, remember that you dismissed a banner, or hold a display preference. These cookies do not track your activity across other websites. If you turn them off, the store keeps working, but it will not remember these small conveniences and you may need to make the same selections again.
Advertising and targeting cookies
Where we run advertising, this category of cookies helps us measure whether it is working and helps prevent the same promotion from being shown to you too many times. They may record that your visit followed one of our advertisements, or help an advertising partner understand the general performance of a campaign. We do not sell your personal information, and we keep advertising cookies to the minimum needed to run responsible, measurable promotions. This category is entirely optional and off unless you choose to allow it where a consent control is presented.
Clause 03How we use the cookies we set
Taken together, the cookies described above let us do a handful of practical things. They keep your shopping cart intact as you move between the scoops, holders, dispensers, and storage sections of the catalog, so the tools you gather for your counter are still there when you reach checkout. They protect the checkout and account areas against fraud and automated abuse. They let us measure and steadily improve the speed and clarity of the store. They remember modest preferences so a return visit is smoother. And, where advertising is used, they help us spend responsibly and avoid over-showing a promotion.
We do not use cookies to build intrusive profiles, to make automated decisions that affect you, or to gather special categories of sensitive information. The personal information that some cookies help collect is handled in line with our Privacy Policy, which explains the legal bases we rely on, how long we keep information, and the rights you have over it.
A short summary: strictly necessary cookies are always on because the cart and checkout depend on them. Every other cookie category is optional, and declining it never blocks you from browsing the catalog or completing an order.
Clause 04Third-party cookies and services
Some features of our store are provided by trusted third parties, and those parties may set their own cookies when their feature loads on a page. The most common examples are our e-commerce platform and hosting infrastructure, which set strictly necessary cookies to run the storefront and secure the checkout; our payment processors, which set cookies needed to authorise a transaction safely and to guard against fraud; and our analytics provider, which sets performance cookies to help us measure usage in aggregate.
These third parties act as service providers helping us operate the store, and their use of cookies is governed by their own privacy and cookie notices in addition to this one. We do not control the cookies that a third party sets through its own service, and we encourage you to review the relevant provider's notice if you would like the full detail. Where a third-party cookie is optional rather than necessary, declining the corresponding category in your browser or in any consent control we present will prevent it from being used.
Clause 05Managing and disabling cookies in your browser
You are always in control of the cookies stored on your device. Every major browser lets you see the cookies that have been set, delete them individually or all at once, and block some or all cookies from being stored in the future. You can usually reach these controls through the browser's settings or preferences menu, in a section named for privacy, security, or site data. The exact steps differ between browsers and versions, so the general routes below are a guide rather than an instruction set.
- Google Chrome: open Settings, then Privacy and security, then Cookies and other site data, where you can block or clear cookies and manage exceptions for individual sites.
- Apple Safari: open Preferences or Settings, then the Privacy tab, to block cookies and to remove stored website data.
- Mozilla Firefox: open Settings, then Privacy & Security, where the Cookies and Site Data section lets you clear data and choose an enhanced tracking protection level.
- Microsoft Edge: open Settings, then Cookies and site permissions, then Manage and delete cookies and site data.
- Mobile browsers: look in the app's own settings under privacy or site settings; on some devices cookie controls also sit within the operating system settings.
Please keep in mind that blocking all cookies, including strictly necessary ones, will stop parts of our store from working — most noticeably the cart and the checkout, which rely on session cookies to hold your order together. If you clear your cookies, any optional preferences we had remembered will be reset, and you may be asked to make certain choices again. Many browsers also offer a private or incognito mode that discards cookies automatically when the window is closed, which can be a convenient way to browse without leaving persistent cookies behind.
Clause 06Do Not Track and global privacy signals
Some browsers can send a "Do Not Track" signal or a global privacy control that expresses a general preference not to be tracked across websites. There is currently no single, agreed industry standard for how a website must interpret these signals, and behaviour varies widely across the web. Because our optional cookies are limited and we do not sell personal information, our practices already stay close to what these signals request. Where the law in your location gives a recognised privacy signal specific legal effect, we will honour it as required. Regardless of any signal, you can always manage cookies directly through the browser controls described above.
Clause 07Cookies and children
Bakxyshake sells supplies to businesses and adult consumers, and our store is not directed at children. We do not knowingly use cookies to collect information from children. If you believe a child has used our store in a way that set cookies collecting their information, please contact us using the details at the end of this policy and we will take appropriate steps.
Clause 08Changes to this Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the technologies we use, in the services embedded in our store, or in the law. When we make a material change we will revise the "Last updated" date shown near the top of this page, and where appropriate we will draw the change to your attention through a notice on the site. We encourage you to review this policy periodically so that you stay informed about how we use cookies. Your continued use of the store after an update takes effect indicates that you have read the current version.
